Re: Script Converter

It will convert any of the scripts to any of the others. Just click on the dropdown menu at the top right and select one of the romanised schemes (there are several to choose from). This is Lanna converted to IAST: Ahh! got it. This is great. One suggestion 18-12-12 06_30_01-Aksharamukha.png The pl...

Re: Script Converter

I've been working on a nifty tool to converter between 60+ Indic scripts including Brahmi, Kharoshthi, Devanagari, Khmer, Sinhala and other romanization formats. I'm afraid I'm missing something. I put some Sinhala in the top part (නමෝ), it auto detects as Sinhala, but when I click the double arrow...

Re: What is the yardstick to determine a monk as Theravada?

My understanding is Bhikkhu Bodhi got some affiliation with Mahayana but he still a Theravada monk? He has lived in several Mahayana monasteries in the US for quite some time. The first was lead by a Mahayana monk who wanted Bhante Bodhi to teach Pali suttas to the lay people there. At the second M...

Re: Wisdom Publications sale: 40% off of all their books

It's also good to remember that when you buy the digital version not only are they DRM free (you can use them on any device) but they come with three formats: epub, mobi, and PDF. This is only true when you buy them through the Wisdom website.

Re: Bhikkhu Sujato's Four Nikaya translations as Ebooks—October 2018

And the choices are made out of biases. Speaking of which... translating "sankharas" as "choices"? Really? Well, yes, I'm still using Ven. Bodhi versions too. Haven't found anything more precise yet. :reading: I agree choices sounds odd. But honestly "volitional formations&...

Re: Bhikkhu Sujato's Four Nikaya translations as Ebooks—October 2018

Just a reminder for folks who don't know, there is a thread on the SuttaCentral discussion forum where people can post typos. It is an easy way to collect good karma. https://discourse.suttacentral.net/t/please-report-any-errors-or-typos/9548 Is this relevant or even important to mention here? If m...

Re: Bhikkhu Sujato's Four Nikaya translations as Ebooks—October 2018

So far, I also came across more than 10 suttas where Bhante Sujato appears to be having an abnormal bias as a translator plus some surprising omissions too. Bhikkhu Bodhi's translations are more reliable and improving over the years. Just a reminder for folks who don't know, there is a thread on th...

Re: Selecting a Sri Lanka Monastery for Ordination

1. You have to enter srilanka with a entry visa if you want to obtain a residence visa in Sri Lanka. 2.you can not change a tourist visa to residence visa. Seconding this. Do not enter with a tourist visa if you hope to get a resident visa without leaving the country. Unless you hear otherwise from...

Presumptuousness? Huh? I quoted you for the sake of continuity of the thread, but I wasn't really talking to you. Even still, I can't imagine what I was presuming. That you had never read the suttas? Any way, sorry.

Re: Bhikkhu Sujato's Four Nikaya translations as Ebooks—October 2018

Bikkhu Bodhi and Maurice Walshe translations are not available on-line and do not have Pali-English word matching. Sutta Central has quite a large number of Bhante Bodhi's translations on line, they just aren't segmented with the Pali. Wisdom Publications has real eased selected suttas for free, no...

Re: Bhikkhu Sujato's Four Nikaya translations as Ebooks—October 2018

I understand that Bhikkhu Sujato is currently working on translating the early parts of the Kuddhakanikaya, to make it available in the same, consistent, form, with the English/Pali option. I guess that would include the Dhammapada, Sutta Nipata, Udana, and Ittivuttaka. So Ven Sujato already has th...

Re: Complete translation of Samyutta Nikaya by Bhante Sujato free Epub Kindle download

So there is still a lot of typo correction going on with the translation. Hard to say anything is final. This epub version will make it's way to the Sutta Central download page eventually I believe. But they won't be posting a Kindle version or docx, and probably not a pdf any time soon. The transla...
