Re: The teachings of Ven. Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara Thero
Hi: Wasnt this topic only for Lal posts?. There is already like 3 topics of people raging against him, so why not do it there?. Its like someone who believes only in suttas would go to the abhidhamma section of the forum and start talking that abhidhamma is crap. He would be considered not welcome a...

Re: Challenges with my buddhism practice
Hi:
My advice would be that you are thinking too much.
You became too involved with your concepts of meditation, and it wont stop until you stop. Just take 3 months of no reading, no meditation, no books, etc. "Go back to normal".
Then resume.
Regards

Re: Home I concentrate worse than in the Goenka 10-day course
Hi: I dont practice the goenka method, but my advice would be to stick to a practice at least one year before starting to change methods. Also, if your teachers dont like you reading suttas, you should not read them for the moment. A sutta can be interpreted 100 different ways. Besides that, because...

Re: Almost 'stream enterer'? Possibly 'almost stream winner?'
Hi: I would reply to you something like the advice given to Anuruddha by Sariputta: -Whenever you think "whatever i think it will manifest", that is self conceit in you. -Whenever you think "maybe im about to enter the stream", that is restlessness in you. -Whenever you think: &q...

Re: If you realize something is suffering, you will release it?
Hi: Yeah its perhaps the core teaching. "If you realize something is suffering, you will release it". The thing is the mind can arrive at a logical conclusion, but still not believe it 100% from bottom of the heart. There are miles of work between "knowing" something is suffering...

Re: Vipassana on anti-depressants
Hi: It depends on the person and the medication, but my opinion is antidepressants should only be taken if its unbearable not to (and this is usually the case). Some people can become very advanced meditators taking antidepressants and then begin to lower the dose or quit, some people cant even sit ...

Re: Help me understand the idea of Nirvana/ or the ultimate goal of the path
Hi: Its a tricky answer, so i understand the need for that question. Nibbana is the end of a CONDITIONED BECOMING. You are right stating that a person attaining nibbana (actually parinibanna) will not be REBORN anywhere in the cosmos as a being subject to birth and death (of conditionded states). Bu...

Hi:
I would suggest none until you reach a plateau in your practice. For the meditation is many times a hindrance having books in your head. Once you feel you cant longer progress search for answers to your problem.
