Re: Is Buddhism for the rich and intellectual?
If you have a good life and well provided for you could spend your time on contemplation. You could have a cup of hot coffee in front of your fire place and a good book on Abhidhamma or Psychology of Buddhism. Many working people don't really have such luxury by the time they finished their job the...

Re: Is Buddhism for the rich and intellectual?
Monks aren't rich and many are not intellectual.....does this mean that buddhism is not for many monks? If the only reason one doesn't study buddhism enough hours in a day is that one is not rich enough and does not have the intellectual motivation to find resources and study them ones self.....if ...

Re: Is Buddhism for the rich and intellectual?
I have a B.Sc. which never amounted to anything. By my country’s standards - I’m poor. I save $400 a month; pay a ridiculous amount for rent... But my job allows me to meditate the entire time. I am supremely content with my arrangement. I would not want to be rich - I would not want such worldly p...

Re: Is Buddhism for the rich and intellectual?
Kurt Cobain was rich and artistically gifted. He wrote songs about inner torment and suffered chronically from undiagnosed stomach pain. He began self medicating with heroin but didn’t believe he’d ever become addicted. His suicide note was addressed to an imaginary childhood friend named “Buddha”....

Re: Does thought consume energy if yes how much?
Can we lose weight by thinking? Yes your comment is interesting because i have always thought you can control your weight by thinking. what i mean is not the simple "Think yourself thin" no, no way, such simple thought will make you lose weight. You lose weight by thinking can only be achieved by a...

Re: Dealing with Depression and Anxiety
There are useful things in the video. Useful for those who are just mild-to-medium depressed, or in remission. But I feel the Venerable doesn't grasp how paralysing depression or any mental illness can be in its acute phase. When it's utterly impossible to even have a shower or leave the house, let...

Does thought consume energy if yes how much?
Hello Theravadins, I like to call myself a Theravadin because I just love that word it gives me a comfortable feeling just like comfort foods that gluttons take delight in. That feeling which arises and falls away in my neurons. Now let's get down to some serious thought and thinking. What is thinki...

Re: Why do people like Dancing?
Why? Haven't you heard what George Bernard Shaw the famous Irish intellectual said about dance? He said, " A dance is an expression of a vertical desire for a horizontal expression". In England many people make love after dancing I didn't know that until I went there. And I said to the English lady...

Re: Why is the Dalai Lama so much against Dorje Shugden?
Speaking of the politics of the controversy, the group is extremely sectarian and pits one order or sect of monks above and against the rest. Additionally some (perhaps many) followers are financed or employed by the Chinese government in order to split the Tibetans and attack the Dalai Lama. This ...

Re: Why is the Dalai Lama so much against Dorje Shugden?
I know members here will say "Why don't you pose this question on Dharma Wheel Forum, they are more familiar with Tibetan Buddhism". My answer is a big No because their answer will be biase and because they are very much into this Sect. You are misinformed. Discussion of the being you mention is ex...
