Re: A Buddhist Diagnosis On Climate Change
Once thing I would like more clarity on is what " noble " constitutes in the Ecological Noble Eightfold Path. Just like the path...which leads the right way with a purpose. Does it lead to enlightenment , or is it noble in a more mundane sense... as in being a good and decent thing to do?...

Re: Walking out of a burning house
Looking for some fresh perspective to a long conversation I had with my brother. The starter was... If you have relinquished any attachments to the physical body and/or physical world, and your house catches on fire while you are inside, do you walk out of it? Why or why not? Your quotation/text ar...

Re: AN 4.171 - Cetanāsuttaṃ (an excellent sutta I had never read before)
The piece of text is about Kamma.....how kamma is experienced via body, speech and mind.....conditioned by ignorance.....how kamma is created via body, speech and mind.....and how kamma is not created via body, speech and mind. What does this mean?:"others make one generate that bodily volition...

Re: Dependent Origination as Process (or not).
Here's SN 3.3 per BB's translation - At Sāvatthī. Sitting to one side, King Pasenadi of Kosala said to the Blessed One: “Venerable sir, for one who has taken birth, is there anything other [to expect] than aging and death?”205 “For one who has taken birth, great king, there is nothing other [to exp...

Re: What is our identity and nature of existence when we reach nibbana?
If consciousness is not self, what is left when the highest goal is attained? It is said if we experience Nibbana, you will know what you need to know. Self cannot be said to either exist or not exist.....for reasons. An impersonal emptiness that has no consciousness and is not a being or self of a...

Re: Let's consider how we experience this image
There's no way out of the box. There is no box!.....why do you "cling" to words? You will not get out via that piece of text. That text only tells you what makes one IN it! That text should be understood in this way: The first line is a question because there is a question mark at the end...

Re: Let's consider how we experience this image
Ok, this is an interesting thread but it is nothing but a MIRROR! Am going to try something different, say, trying to SEE it from another PERSPECTIVE: The teaching is about NO "I-am".....if this is the case, then the very question of "how we experience" would be a contradiction t...

Re: New work on Paticcasamuppada by Ven. Ñāṇananda
So why is it that there is Conventional truth and Ultimate truth exist between Trainee and Arahart? According to SN 22.87: Seeing the Dhamma: "For a long time, Lord, I have wanted to come and set eyes on the Blessed One, but I had not the strength in this body to come and see the Blessed One.&q...

Re: New work on Paticcasamuppada by Ven. Ñāṇananda
Directly knows/knowing can only be seen under the trainee and arahart....why not under run-of-the-mill person? This is because run-of-the-mill person is not on the N8P, therefore he is not learning the teaching hence will not have directly knows/knowing. It would be useful to clarify this expressio...

Re: New work on Paticcasamuppada by Ven. Ñāṇananda
I believe we already know impermanence is truth , so when we cultivate the perception of impermanence it is not for the purposes of repeatedly relearning what we already know Speaking as a puthajjana, I don't think we do. That's why this perception is something to be cultivated. Looks like rohana h...

Re: New work on Paticcasamuppada by Ven. Ñāṇananda
You want a moderator to delete Ven. Ñāṇananda's words from his new work on paticcasamuppada in a topic about his new work, because you insist they are incorrect, despite MN1 clearly saying otherwise? If you look at Page 8 where I posted, with MN 1. It is different in the use of words..... That is w...

Re: New work on Paticcasamuppada by Ven. Ñāṇananda
I am a little unclear about which particular concept the commentator has confounded. I think it is the highlight in the following: Then about the learner (sekha) who has not attained arahanthood this is what comes in the discourse: ‘paṭhaviṁ paṭhavito abhijānāti’. In this case it is not sañjānāti (...
