Re: Choosing to be unmindful
Do you just designate times to be mindful? Yes. Right now. Don't be too hard on yourself if mindfulness is inconsistent. Just do the best you can. With more practice, you can easily make this question a moot point. Once you see the depth of benefits from mindfulness, you will probably lose the desi...

Less wholesome than mindfulness... less harmful than a heroine bender.

If I recall correctly, that does not apply to things that cause harm. For instance, a lactose intolerant monk can (and should) turn down an offer for milk.Taijitu wrote: Unless someone offers me a cigarette as it would be rude to turn down a gift.

Re: Rare x-mas eve space walk?
No idea. However, it looks like the "rare" spacewalk you are referring to is spacewalk #365 for NASA (or maybe all nations). It seems any date that has two spacewalks can not be considered rare.

Re: If I do a bad action Iam not aware of Ive done whats mak
I'm not sure what you are asking. I will try to paraphrase and you can let me know if that's really your question. I commit unwholesome actions all the time without realizing I am committing those actions. What is going to prevent me from committing those same unwholesome actions in the future? If t...

Re: The Dhamma Wheel Meditation Challenge
I have hardly meditated the last few months. A while ago I sat everyday for about 90 days, but as soon as I missed a single day and lost my streak I quickly declined into spotty practice. In a talk, Ven Thanissaro recommended setting weekly goals so that a goal is not thrown out the window for a sin...

My reverence is not for the self. It is for the kamma.chownah wrote:In what way is it healthy? Seems to me that there is a big downside to this reverence to a self and I find it difficult to see an upside.

Re: Does illegal downloading violate the 2nd precept?
The only thing that makes any property yours (intellectual or physical) is your ability to claim it and fight for it. Then no theft can exist. The legal system gives a community standard for determining what is or is not one persons property so that we may settle things more civilly instead of reso...

Irony alert... my first post on Dhamma Wheel was an effort to prove kamma through physics.

Re: Why life does not really exist
For those who don't know about equilibrium, here is an explanation from a chemistry perspective. In a chemical reaction, chemical equilibrium is the state in which both reactants and products are present at concentrations which have no further tendency to change with time.[1] Usually , this state r...
