Re: Kamma
Good question. The Jains, for instance, believed that kamma was a kind of particle matter that got attached to the soul. It would then be the goal of practice to rid the soul of this matter. I'm looking for clear refutation of this view. You can think of memory for example and ask the same question...

Thinking of science and religion as two separate branches of knowledge to understand the world help us to get the most of both. Using one to falsify the other is not necessarily the best way.

Re: Pandemic Vaccines
I would only take it if i have to. For example, if i have to travel and it becomes a condition to be vaccinated, then i might consider it. Otherwise, if i am left alone, i would continue with my normal life and be open to possibilities.

Re: Eternal citta in "Theravada"? ---> probably Found.
Viññanam anidassanam Yes, it is the wrong sign and responsible for the ceaseless search for an essence (hence i descried it as a condition for continuity). Being beyond grasping by the senses or illusive to deconstruction does not make it any less essence-less. It is Mara's favorite trick :juggling...

I understand consciousness without feature to be a condition for continuity. That does not make it eternal.

Re: Are idappaccayatā, aniccā, dukkhā & anattā asaṅkhata ????
Wouldn't it be then this impermanence forming unconditioned? Isn't it the Dhamma itself? You are equating forming impermanence into a law that persists in time, with impermanence forming being unconditioned (whatever that means), which does not make any sense. The unconditioned is an element in nat...

Re: Are idappaccayatā, aniccā, dukkhā & anattā asaṅkhata ????
Does the above imply the supramundane Laws of Dhamma are "unconditioned elements" (asaṅkhatādhātu)? It implies that persistence is a characteristic of the laws of nature, mundane or supramundane. is the permanence of impermanence "unconditioned"? No. It is conditioned by forming...

Re: How influential is vows in Buddhism?
Is vows considered a strong wish? In his past lives did the Buddha has vowed that he want to be a Buddha in future? I think the precepts are inseparable from the teachings on kamma. Understanding the relationship between intentional actions and its fruits is conducive to understanding and preventiv...

Re: The general/consensus on what constitute an enlightenment / awakening attainment
Is enlightenment as commonly used in conversations = nirvana? It depends on the context where these terms as encountered. In general, the suttas refers to awakening, which includes knowledge of the unconditioned "nirvana". Are there enlightened beings today? It depends on your criteria. O...

Re: Profile: Raṭṭhapāla (Week of April 4, 2021)
What about how he received permission from his parents? The sutta presents us with two permissions: 1- Permission from parents 2- Permission from the Buddha to visit his parents The two permissions are inline with other aspects of the teachings. We are taught that killing a Buddha, or killing fathe...

I selected the first three options. The one whom doctors attributed death to covid was the father in law of my colleague. He is neither a family member nor a friend, but i still choose the third option.

Re: Masks: Yes or No
I do think the question can be easily answered through a simple yes or no. The word "seems" implies relying on appearances. Appearances can be deceptive. The word "you" is vague for a social being, especially in the context of wearing masks that is meant to protect oneself or oth...
