Re: The five precepts and the four pārājikas

So was it just a philosophical issue, or does good householder seek actually for a good grasp for his own further good course of practice? Which, of course, would be a matter to give more effort into, while else has less reason to stress time and lasting good conditions. It appears as a philosophic...

Re: Interference in giving/receiving

As long one does not really have strong devotion and "love" toward one's teaches, as long as not willing to leave one's home, one's stand, all would be rejected. Indeed. It seems pointless to (attempt to) "practice the Dhamma" in an effort to improve one's householder situation....

Re: Can Jesus save people? How?

Greetings, Can the Buddha save Buddhists? What is the benefit of taking refuge in the Triple Gem? If anyone does not take the three refuges, or have faith in the Buddha, can they effectively practise the path leading to the end of suffering? Bhante, does he think that such is suitable to say? Wheth...

Re: Can Jesus save people? How?

I think if someone was a stoic or Zoroastrian or someone knew that good behavior accumulates and causes happiness this would lead to mindfulness possibly. I notice when my Sila is very good mindfulness happens automatically but not for long periods. Does virtue lead to mindfulness? Yes. Wrong Sila ...

Re: In your opinion what is the greatest Dhamma propagation project in last 100 years.

Not sure who gave the kick off of publishing the Tipitaka, after the last Sanghayana, good householder, which might be the root course of what is common perceived as "greatest Dhamma propagation", yet possible less is known and traced in regard of the Sublime Buddhas wish in how many would...

Re: Exact process of remembering past lives

Some people remember their previous lives spontaneously, without developing jhāna. Bhante, Thank you. :namaste: Do you know any bhikkhus who developed the ability to see previous lives? I don't need names. I would like to know if it is possible to do so in recent times. Thank you. :namaste: Okasa, ...

Re: The five precepts and the four pārājikas

Is there any special reason why good householder tries to investigate the matter? The training for monks is more advanced than the training for laity, so comparing the two can shed light on how laity understand the precepts, and can inspire to shed away a more basic understanding in favor of a high...

Re: The five precepts and the four pārājikas

Thank you for the answers :anjali: I thought that the fifth precept is relevant to the other four to the degree that they affect judgement/intention. I also read that intention is necessary for the four Pārājikas to be considered offenses. If a monk, under the influence of alchohol, engaged in a se...

Re: How the Buddha's views might have mapped onto the political compass?

Centrist. The Buddha taught the middle way. :meditate: He was not an extremist, not just in the spiritual sphere, but in all things. It is a practical teaching, does not advocate monasticism or asceticism for all. He created the four-fold assembly. He had rich benefactors who were capitalists (I kn...

Re: Five and half years old monk!

Five and half years old monk! The story of a five and half year monk. There are no details bout the background of this ordination. I have mixed feelings about this sort of ordination. Most probably this child does not have parents or the parents must be poor to look after him. It is better to be a ...

Re: how much is enough

Those with wrong view, the confused, by the Jains taught, thinking "no self, no me, nothing" can feel secure in their dullness and ignorance, wouldn't get enough, and little by little, fill up demerits like the rain a tank. Whereas those with right view, don't have any reasons wrong wrong ...

The blatant and refined households

Johann wrote What ever rules one follows, that becomes one's house. What ever one takes as his house, is bond to it's rules. Becoming the house? what do you mean? Do you mean becoming due to attachment which is the correct interpretation of Paticca samuppada? You continue The wise, abound desires f...

Maybe one might start to try to remember the last 10min, 1 hour: object one lived on, it's tast, it's endurance, pasing away.

Re: Humans and animals

Venerables & Friends, Is there any explanation in the Buddha's teaching as to why only animals are visible to human senses? Creationists, while believing in other beings that are invisible to the ordinary human senses, explain this phenomena through god's creation. I wonder if Buddhism has expl...
