Re: Stages of Enlightenment

So if a Once Returner isn't a Once Returner any longer, why bother keeping it as a separate stage? The Stream Enterer comes back up to seven times. This contains within it the possibility of Occasional Returner with no need for a separate term. If anything it sounds like a step down, with the possib...

Re: Meditation advice

Mysgubbe wrote: Thu Mar 18, 2021 6:16 pm As the title says meditation advice and not lucid dream advice, i would suggest i am trying to meditate :).
Then the next question is which technique did you choose to meditate?

And the third question is what are you intending to get from doing it?

Mostly I just sit to meditate. When trying for a WILD I usually either keep myself awake or go into regular sleep. It can be years between episodes of hypnagogia even when using mugwort, which is supposed to help with having more of it.

Re: limit the influence of secular buddhism

Even Secular Buddhism can't get away from reincarnation. Sometimes things surface in the course of meditation or working with emotions which can only seem to be literal past life memories. It is useful to consider them as such.

Re: limit the influence of secular buddhism

It's like if you were going to learn a piece of music but you insisted on playing different notes from what you were instructed and said that's what your teacher taught you to play. You might like the sound but it's still not what the teacher instructed. Nothing so extreme. It is wanting to learn t...

Re: limit the influence of secular buddhism

My vote was for no. To me Secular Buddhism is far more than denying reincarnation. It involves using brain imaging technologies and blood chemistry workups. It is demonstrating results in the lives of real people. It is for people who want to sit quietly and be mindful of breathing first and worry a...

Re: Did I experience the first jhana?

I'm going to have to disagree. It sounds like your practice is going on longer than it should. Switch to walking meditation for a bit to raise more energy and then sit again. Dullness and lethargy can feel very good. It can also be very quiet. It can look like good concentration, but it is the hindr...

Re: Jesus is the Only Way?

Jesus taught on many different levels and even his closest students were known for misunderstanding him. So he said he came from the Father and the way to the Father is through him. But not him as an individual human being. It is some realization or state of consciousness. Christ Consciousness, mayb...

Re: Can i use sexual fantasy daydream for induce tranquality?

People say strange things on this forum. I know this thing I want to do is wrong, but maybe they will give me permission to do it anyway. And it is a a Buddhist forum. At least PayPal some money to your favorite Dhamma group and recite 108 Suttas.

Re: How many of you really tried to attain jhana?

The advice a lot of people here seem to have is to work on removing the five hindrances in daily life, not only on the cushion. Same thing for building jhana factors. Then we start out closer to access concentration when sitting down. Instead I have been hoping to learn jhana first and use it for su...

Re: celibacy tips

If people dont see drawbacks of sensuality it dont mean that there isn't. Even with obvious bad habits like smoking, drinking, using drugs, and overeating it is the same way. The parts of a person responsible for the habits have good intentions. It doesn't help to fight them. Those parts are as sur...

Re: celibacy tips

It doesn't help to treat parts of yourself like an enemy. No one wins when you fight yourself. Fighting against sex can cost you more energy than just having it would.
