Bhikku Analayo, whose specialty is EBT, often gives workshops and retreats around the world.

Thoughts?
No and Buddhists have been making law for about 2,500 years.

Re: Five questions on meditation

Sitting though has tremendous value. Please start with what you can do in a good stable posture and gradually build up. I used a free meditation timer on my phone to gradually and slowly extend sitting time. The body adjusts to slow and consistent practice.

Re: Why do people yawning when meditate?

I heard one old Buddhist mediation teacher say yawning was good; you yawn because your body needs oxygen and yawning satisfies that need. I have no idea if this is physiologically correct.

Re: theravada attitude towards yogacara and madhyamaka

Since I have studied also advaita philosophy. advaita was influenced by yogacara; however, the main difference is that "the consciousness" in yogacara is not atman (Vasubandhu outlines this) while "the consciousness" in advaita is atman/brahman (soul/God). So in summary, the con...

Re: theravada attitude towards yogacara and madhyamaka

... I'll add that the modern apologist position is usually to state that the Yogacara never taught that all is mind or that mind exists. However in reality this is precisely what they taught and were heavily criticized for it. Centuries later the "if you can't beat them, join them" philos...

Re: theravada attitude towards yogacara and madhyamaka

Can Advaita be said to be Yogacara, since it also says everything is consciousness? Maybe Advaita is the only surviving Yoacara school that has temples. And since Yogacara literally means "union-seeking" that would for sure be Advaita that is seeking union with Brahman. No Advaita cannot ...

Re: theravada attitude towards yogacara and madhyamaka

It depends on who you ask and whose Theravada you mean. Remember that all these ideologies have a religious purpose. It is less about what you believe and your opinion as what you realize. The late Theravadin scholar David Kalupahana not only felt that they were compatible, he argued that Madyamaka ...

Re: Did Hakamaya Noriaki ever write his proposed article demonstrating that Yogacara is not Buddhism?

The OP might have better luck asking about Yogachara or Critical Buddhism, which specifically criticizes Japanese Mahayana Buddhism and attacks East Asian Mahayana Buddhism as a whole, on a Mahayana forum. Perhaps y’all were thinking of Dharmawheel? In any case, what is the criticism of Yogachara c...

Re: Is Falungong a school of buddhism?

Falungong seems to be a very old tradition. However, it appears it has become a political issue like Tibet. It is very recent although it draws on elements of qigong, Taoism, and Buddhism. In any case, it is not a school of Buddhism, breakaway or other. Religious movements and cults have a very lon...

Re: Zen Buddhism

.. I always thought Ajahn Chah sounded very Zen, so I can see a lot of these distinctions in Buddhism are superficial and rather arbitrary. On the other hand, I think it's good to be clear about the differences which exist. :goodpost: I am always impressed by how truly religious people do this. I k...

Re: Zen Buddhism

Is it correct to describe Zen as a Mahayana school? I've heard some Zennies talk about a "transmission outside the sutras", but I've never been clear what this means. Zen Buddhism, or Buddhism I would say, does not depend on the sutras or texts and cannot be found there. They are the fing...
