Re: My father believes that zen buddhism is the truest

If he is looking to avoid practice, unless he has karmic roots, circumstances and insight on the level of say, hui neng, he is deluded. If you are looking for some sort of reconciliation of theravadan and zen buddhism, you must read this: http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/thai/dune/giftsheleft.html...

Re: Noticing a decline in practice

1. Get new friends or do without. 2. Set a timer for your practice and stay down that amount of time no matter what you think or what you think you think. 3. When you start walking toward the cushion or doing your bows or what ever precedes your practice, make a commitment to let go of your negative...

I agree that sexual intercourse should not be vulgar.

Persons of good quality keep the pinky rigidly extended at all times.

God is ego deified. The very king of illusion, the truth otoh is something else.

Re: Appropriate username?

Yes bodhidharma was a buddha and a patriarch in a meditation tradition unbroken since the time of the buddha, thousands of years old rather than just a couple of hundred. Dont worry, i dont think anyone will mistake you for the real bodhidharma :) And actually an argument could be made that this guy...

Re: Chat center now open!

Either way, having the chat room directly on the Dhamma Wheel website beats all the advantages of having an external chat room. It feels much more at home and less of a "coffeeshop a few blocks away". My eyes are 60 years old and if its about clarity of communication and the wides...

Re: Chat center now open!

Close but no cigar. People are used to reading and posting in chat bottom to top with the latest submissions appearing on the bottom of the chat window. Also, the alternate color striping makes the entries hard to read. The reason most text entry fields are black print on a white window is for clari...

Re: How to let go feelings of love?

Real love is wanting the best for another. Romantic "love" is merely wanting the other.
Acknowledging the feelings for what they are might help in dealing with them.

Re: Choice of Words to Replace 'Open Dhamma' Forum

My suggestion to replace "Fringe Thervada" is "Open Dhamma". The latter name is at least inclusive to things that may be related to theravadan buddhism and buddhism in general, but i guess the intent with the change of name was to make things more restrictive and less open. I don...

Re: NonDuality and the Nature of the Self

If nirvana and samsara are not different then buddhism is non dualist. If they are different how can one get there from here? I like the zen idea of not-two. About the teacher in the video linked in the first post, he seems a likable enough fellow and giving pretty much the standard advaita rap whic...
