Re: What is the future of Dhamma Wheel

We have seen many Dhamma discussion groups and websites shut down after some time. This can be a great loss to the Dhamma community. Closure of access to insight is a good example. Thankfully the owner was kind enough to leave it as a open source. What is the future of Dhamma Wheel. Will one day we...

Re: Mindfulness of breathing - sutta version

... I have seen in the nikaya that at the fourth jhana, breath came to a stop. The stopping of the breath in the 4rth Jhana could be related to certain methods of reaching Jhana but that does not seem to be the case with Mindfulness of breathing - sutta version. Why? Because the 16 stepls are takin...

Re: Mindfulness of breathing - sutta version

I agree with what you said about formless attainment. But why is the term body witness define as someone with formless attainment when it is supposed to be without body? The term body witness defines a durable awakening level e.g. 24/7, a formless attainment is a temporal state of mind, while you a...

Re: Mindfulness of breathing - sutta version

Body witness is also defined as someone who has immaterial attainment? What is the reason behind for the Buddha chose the term "body".. witness. I am speculating to be highly successful in meditation one has to acquire mastery over the body in many ways. This coincide with the many "...

Re: Mindfulness of breathing - sutta version

Hi all, do u think there is a connection between "experience the whole body" and the term " body witness"? I have seen in the nikaya that at the fourth jhana, breath came to a stop. No, in the Suttas a body witness is a person that has reached a certain level of awakening but st...

Re: Has MN 64 the same editions than MN 111?

The key problem with interpreting several of those suttas is determining what they imply about timing. Are these things happening during or after the jhana experience? As many of us will recall, Sylvester is a champion of the "after" reading. Others disagree... E.g. see: http://www.dhamma...

Has MN 64 the same editions than MN 111?

Dear Friends I am aware that MN 111 is considered by many a Sutta that could have late additions but I read in MN 64: “a bhikkhu enters upon and abides in the first jhana, which is accompanied by applied and sustained thought, with rapture "Whatever exists therein of material form, feeling, per...

This oneness concept is somehow a romantic generic catch phrase. Buddhism is a detailed specific path with a how to perpective and has liberation as the destination, welcome to the real thing.

Re: Difference between jhana and magga phala

Difference between jhana and magga phala. Phala means fruition or results of action if I'm not mistaking... Magga means the path... Magga Phala I imagine then means the fruits of the path. Which of course would be the noble attainments, the whole goal. Jhana is part of that path to the goal; the ei...

Re: Mindfulness of breathing - sutta version

Under this logic we can add almost whatever we want to the teachings, say for example if a teacher would start teaching to sing the Macarena while practicing Anapanassati is that ok? Remember the Sutta does not say "do not sing the Macarena". In theory the different techniques sound ok, i...

Re: Mindfulness of breathing - sutta version

As for "the whole length of the breath", that's a perfectly logical reading of "body of the breath", according to a number of teachers. Of course, some teachers will give you complex arguments about why their particular interpretation or technique is correct. :anjali: Mike My un...
