Re: Purification of Mind

Two questions: 1) How does one properly purify the mind? 2) How does one assess progress in that effort? Many thanks, Glen The answer to the first question is simple: by refraining from doing evil. The answer to the second quesion is difficult. I won't give an answer to the second question becuase ...

Re: Energy(?) in the Temple

Hello again guys, One quick question. I'm wondering what makes you feel uplifted and recharged when you are in the temple (I'm talking about Buddhist temple)? But do you notice that not all temples have that quality? Why is this so? Is that because some temples are set up differently than the other...

Re: Buddha can't help

Buddha himself was a Hindu. I don't think that the Buddha was Hindu. He might have been affected by Hinduism but I believe that the religion that the Buddha grew up with was of the samana (I hope I'm spelling it right) realigion. A religion based on going into the woods and finding yourself. At lea...

It does matter a little. If something is inaccurate then that makes me wonder if any of the other material in the book is inaccurate. I'm still reading it because I've recognized many material in the book from other sources.

Re: Grace in Buddhism?

There are probably many people out there who pray to shakyamuni Buddha and lean on him. But that's probably not the widely accepted interpretation of shakyamuni Buddha's teachings.

A book I'm reading

What's up everybody? I'm reading this book Buddha His Life and His Teaching by Walter Henry Nelson. I'm enjoying it despite that some of it seems made up to me. An example of the words that seem made up to me is in chapter 3 when the author talks about how the Buddha as a prince in his palace (somet...

Re: Political involvement of the Sangha

Hi folks, are there statements in sangha vinaya which say that monks should not be politically involved in lay life matters? Thanks What's point of being politically invovled. The U.S. voting system is fake. The people who win the elections are the people who the big business men of America want to...

Look at the graphs, current temperature is almost near bottom. I don't understand that graph. But if its against global warming then the scientists were probably the same kind of scientists that were under the Bush administration. :? Re: global warming

Also, we happen to be coming out of an ice age so warming is to be expected. :namaste: Yeah we're coming out of an ice age and into the heat age and global warming is speeding the heat age up faster into the too hot to live in age. Also, I really don't know what ice age scientists are talking about...

Yeah I've never read that before until now. It wasn't in a nikyia/agama but in an introduction book to buddhism.

The Buddha's Mom

I just got done reading that the Buddha's mom gave birth to the buddha while being a virgin. The same thing as the virgin Mary mother of Jesus. Is that true? Is that the accepted belief?

global warming

The buddha surely talked about how worlds end. This world seems to have no more than 500 years to it before it heats up to the point where a person couldn't live on it. Is there anyone out there that doesn't believe in global warming?
