Re: Nothing is worth adhering to
I wasn’t being sarcastic, and I’m not without my own interpretations. What I was interested in was hearing how other people understand the text and to discuss implications. Alright, I understand; but I have some hesitations, so I'll keep shut and let y'all discuss things out. This kind of thing ent...

Re: Nothing is worth adhering to
You either get it or you don't. Nothing is worth adhering to. What does that mean though? What are the implications? I genuinely am unsure whether you're being sarcastic here or asking a real question. Isn't the statement obvious? Madhyamika makes things like this most clear, all the many passages ...

Re: Nothing is worth adhering to
You either get it or you don't. Nothing is worth adhering to. That's it. There is no way to interpret it otherwise. You can't interpret what is as obvious as that. If someone has the basics of Buddhism covered, he should be able to understand that statement with ease. That's what I think, hmm.

Re: Are the aggregates dukkha?
Sukha and dukkha are objectification-classifications, and those have their cause in perception. When perceptions are done away with, sukha and dukkha are done away with as well. =) one of these days i need to frame snp 4.11 on my wall The Buddha still conceptualised or "perceived" if you ...

Re: Are the aggregates dukkha?
Can you guys imagine it—us, 2000 years ago, having the same arguements, bickering over the same words and phrases, making schisms, writing commentaries, writing sub-commentaries, etc., and then again today doing the same, haha.

Re: Sitting half-lotus on the same leg
Great post. I have heard from the Shasta Abbey not to sit in the same position (for example one sided half lotus only). It causes chiropractic needs because of throwing off the spine symetery. I've heard similar things, about how to switch legs every now and then in order to avoid getting your spin...

Re: You live life to the fullest when?
But then again, if life and existence are all messed up, then wouldn't living life to the fullest mean experiencing what is most messed up, the most exquisite of messed up things? I wouldn't mind option 5, with some of that french perfume from option 4, together eating like in option 2, near one of ...

Re: Seers
What pali word are you referring to? In terms of English, a seer is someone who sees. Sees what? Sees ultimate truth, ultimate "reality". Seeing, vijja, to have vision, to have knowledge, veda. Not seeing, avijja, to be ignorant. The Buddha is referred to as the all-seeing or all-around ey...

Re: DO vs 4NT
To assume that one is higher than the other is akin to assuming that the first two marks of existence is lower than the third. tbh realizing anicca is far more easier than realizing dukkha Is it? dont want to derail the thread because this isn't the main topic, but... yes, i think it is most people...

Re: 5A is a misinterpreted reformulation of DO
So is the above Alex Wynne's stance, or is it your stance after having heard Alex Wynne's lectures? I can't say for sure because I took these notes many months ago; everything below colored in blue I consider to be approximate quotations from his lectures on early Buddhist meditation (I listened th...
