Re: Theravada in 2018

dont waste my time mate, if you have nothing to contribute then dont post, if you want to call me out on something do it. It can seem to you that the world is all water, i dont care. The only point i will adress is when i said "Every person should know about Theravada" i said this silly un...

Re: Theravada in 2018

While I whole heartedly agree the dhamma should be made available more widely and for free, discoverable to as many people as possible, I also want to reflect that the Buddha was not an evangelist. In fact, monks must be asked to teach as outlined in the vinaya. They cannot go around preaching at p...

Re: How to reach the 1st Jhana?

it seems like there are several types of jhana. IE upakilesa sutta describes lights and visions also VSM talks about attaining Signs. Then there is the 5 factored 1st Jhana.. There are no different types of jhana, but there are 2 types of jhanic classification: old one (pre-buddhist) and new one (b...

Re: Theravada in 2018

I particularly like the idea of undertaking semantic analyses of Pali texts; we might find out that some of those heresies are in fact what the Buddha intended... I also think this is most important of all as it will clear things up for many. In the last 100 years physicists have cleared up their l...

Re: Theravada in 2018

If anyone has the time, resources, and ability to speak authoritatively and persuasively to behavioural scientists and theoretical physicists, then I for one will applaud them. I am sure we do have such people ie Bhante Samahita and other monks with heavy a background in science. I think as lay peo...

For vision and signs, probably takes samatha oriented method ie Asubha will work, most likely one will see organs basicly. I ...

Theravada in 2018

I have been thinking a lot about how no Sangha before us had access to digitalized teachings and communication that the web provides. Honestly i think we are not nearly as organized and productive as we could be, there is a lot to be translated and Theravada does hardly have a footing in the west. S...

A battle fought by those still restless some do have faith others are faithless Concerned am i remaining reckless, closer to death further from Deathless *** Both day and night, across the sea Where Dhamma is There's light to see *** It is as awesome as they say We now should hurry on our way Beyond...

Re: Watching defilements come and go

Ajahn Chah: Defilements were there. Is this referring to an Arahant? Yes, since it is one in whom conceit has been abandoned. Sutta referrence or even a Tipitaka referrence for this? It does not even matter if he talks about Ariya in general or Arahant in particular, you might see why. Does it not ...

You could learn about the other Satipatthana based Burmese method and get a better Idea of what makes Satipatthana practice. Burmese method is practiced in Burma, Sri Lanka and parts of Thailand
