Re: What is right view?

Right View was explained in details in a BPS Wheel Series book, based on Sammaditthi Sutta MN 9 (Discourse on Right View) spoken by Ven Saiputta, and its Commentary. You can read it in full at: http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/nanamoli/wheel377.html For those who are in a hurry, you can re...

Re: Sub-forum different rules?

Thanks. While I can understand there are cases like the "Personal Experience" sub-forum need some form of restriction, I don't see any rationale to impose restriction on sub-forums like Classical Theravada, Theravadin Meditation, Dhammic free-for-all. Perhaps I miss something here?

Sub-forum different rules?

Hi David & Admin, Could you please explain why for some sub-forums (such as Discovering Theravada, Study Group, ...) anyone can browse and read messages, while some other sub-forums (such as Classical Theravada, Theravadin Meditation, ...) are reserved only for registered users who must log in to re...

Re: Nagarjuna

Maybe some people are wondering why all this importance placed on this so-called Mahaprajnaparamita Upadesa? Most Western Buddhists have barely or never even heard of it, even if they are serious Mahayana practitioners and study Nagarjuna. This is simply due to the fact that it does not exist in Sa...

Re: Nagarjuna

Hi, Just to change the subject, I wonder if Ven Pannasikhara or any learned friends could comment on the origin of the Māhaprajñāparamitopadeśa, a commentary on the Large Prajñāparamita? I always thought it was written by Ven Nagarjuna, until I saw the following text from the Wikipedia: "Lindtner co...

Re: Bhikkhuni Ordination performed - by Ajahn Brahmavamso

I think some Dhammayut monks do not recognise the validity of the Mahanikaya lineage. WPP monks are ordained under this lineage. King Mongkut (before he was king) certainly thought the lineage was broken and corrupt otherwise he wouldn't have sought out a Mon lineage to re-ordain in and 'create' a ...

Re: Bhikkhuni Ordination performed - by Ajahn Brahmavamso

I for one do not consider Thailand to be the sole arbiter of Theravada Buddhism. If Thailand doesn't want to follow the wishes of the Buddha that is their affair, but I think that the leadership of Theravada will shift to those groups and nations who do recognize Bhikkhunis. I fear that Thailand wi...

Re: Bhikkhuni Ordination performed - by Ajahn Brahmavamso

Ajahn Chandako says here: "... Secondly is the timing. In just a few months, most of the senior monks and nuns from our tradition would have come together for the first time since the last WAM four years ago. Bhikkhuni ordination was one of the main topics to be discussed. ... ... The fact is, the ...

Re: Bhikkhuni Ordination performed - by Ajahn Brahmavamso

If Thailand is not welcoming of bhikkhunis, hopefully other traditional Theravada nations where these bhikkunis could be well supported, might be more accommodating... Some humble thoughts based on my current understanding (I might be wrong, and I am prepared to be corrected): 1) I don't believe th...

Bhikkhuni ordination - Dhammawiki

Hi David Snyder, I have read your Dhammawiki page on bhikkhuni ordination at: http://www.dhammawiki.com/index.php?title=Bhikkhuni_ordination and I suggest you to check out 2 points: 1) " 2009 In Australia, 8 novice nuns are given the full ordination ...": it should be 4 , not 8. 2) " To be properly ...

Re: About the fifth Śīla

I remember vaguely that in some suttas, the Buddha mentioned only the first four precepts. Does anyone know? BDS I have had a quick search on the Suttas I knew. It seems I was confused between the five precepts and the 10 rightest conducts (such as in MN 41). - There are 3 kinds of bodily rightest ...
