Re: devas visited indian people ancient time but not now?

ancient time in india both in hindu as well as buddhist tradition, devas visited them to tell even small matter but now no one sees them nor deva appear before them voluntierly. why is this ? As far as Hinduism goes, Gods walked the earth in other ages Satya, Treta, Dwyapar. This is Kali Yuga or en...

Re: Poll: What do you consider authoritative?

"I do not consider anything authoritative but my own interpretation, and use what I please from all sources" for me. I thought about it but considered that "my own interpretation" to be too conceitful and ungrateful towards the traditions. Because where would one be able to star...

Re: Ajahn Brahm Says The Will is Empty

Ajahn then says that's when we return to our seats we realise that everything is driven by causes and conditions aka karma . AB did not mention " karma ". AB only referred to "causes & conditions". AN is giving a talk on the 'supramundane'. Therefore, the subject matter is n...

So let me get this straight. You would have let the Las Vegas shooter go on and not intervened? At Columbine, Sandy Hook, Virginia Tech?

Yes/No answer please

Re: Jain asceticism is way too hardcore

terrorist can be locked up in jail so they wont come in contact with people and inside jail they can be helped to turn in to good if possible but killing them because they killed someone is not the realistic idea. It is this type of silly, meaningless idealism that make me go on six month long sabb...

Re: Jain asceticism is way too hardcore

Buddhism has some inbuilt weaknesses. What about right to kill for self defense? Every nation has armed forces. Unless a religion allows the right to kill under some circumstances .. bit hard to adopt it wholeheartedly. You are confusing conventional worldly rules, laid down in national and interna...

Re: Jain asceticism is way too hardcore

these days it is easy for me to find real religion vs false religion. other than buddhism, all religion looks deep fake for sure. That is little harsh. For me the spiritual life is still a mix of Upanishadic Hinduism and Theravada Buddhism with quite large chunks of the Bible thrown in. I argued ag...

Re: AI: What is a sentient being?

I have seen all and forgotten a few like Bicentennial Man and original BR. But what I will like to mention is none mentioned sentience. You said: And also please note that as far as I know no sci-fi movie has shown a sentient character (one capable of being self aware and thus feel - humiliation, l...

Re: I am done talking about the dhamma with non buddhists

You should never discuss Dhamma with anyone who is not a Theravada buddhist. They are bound to ask stupid questions such as - does Kalchakra cleanse the soul or have you met Dalai Lama. To which you have to reply - they are pseudo Buddhists. And then have to give a lengthy explanation of schisms wit...

Re: AI: What is a sentient being?

And also please note that as far as I know no sci-fi movie has shown a sentient character (one capable of being self aware and thus feel - humiliation, love, anger, hate). Of course they do. That's the whole point of humanoid/android/robotoid fiction: to explore where the line is between humans and...

Re: AI: What is a sentient being?

Greetings everyone, As we know, AI research is currently on going. If, one day, AI becomes a reality would said intelligence be classed as a sentient being in the Dhamma? Also, for orthodox views, would it also be subject to kamma and rebirth? What are the bare requirements needed to be classed as ...
