Re: sense bases disappear ?
SN 22.89/SA 103 Khemaka has uprooted the notion "this is mine"; but not yet uprooted the notion "I am". And he does not consider himself an arahant. ------- As long as an arahant experiences something in the kama loka; these experiences in the kama loka, will always go through th...

A little reminder. And that is not folk-etymology - (like some so-and-so slanderer would say in your back). That's taken straight from a reliable dictionary - like everything that follows. And also proper declension and conjugation. ------ What dhamma means: https://www.dhammawheel.com/viewtopic.php...

Re: depression treatments
do you think depression treatments work, like for depression as a clinical disorder i have usually not favored psychiatric drugs and have not found my limited experience with counseling to be helpful. but i am struggling pretty bad; today was rly hard. First, like Lucas Oliveira rightly said: "...

Re: sense bases disappear ?
Yet, the arahant remains sentient... so the challenge is to work out, what indeed has "ceased", and what remains, what is their difference, and what is the significance of that. When does the six fields of sensory experience (aka saḷāyatana) start to fade away, and when do they vanish? ::...

Re: sense bases disappear ?
Indriya = perceptual power (RV. , AV. , VS. , TS. , AitBr. , ŚBr., Suśr. ), of the organs of senses. Originally, indriya is the power linked to the god Indra. By extension, and when talking about the organs of senses, it becomes the power of the organs of senses. ------ Indriyasaṃyama = indriya-saṃ-...

Re: sense bases disappear ?
Also see Bahiya sutta for this. I don’t think anyone understands Bahiya sutta In the Bāhiya sutta (ud.1.10), (aka Maluṅkyaputta sutta - SN 35.95) , Ettha ca te, mālukyaputta, diṭṭhasutamutaviññātabbesu dhammesu diṭṭhe diṭṭhamattaṃ bhavissati,... Should be translated as: When, Māluṅkyaputta, in...

Re: sense bases disappear ?
In the dependent arising , the cessation of namarupa comes to cessation of sense bases . How do you understand this , the sense bases disappear right there ? Or it means something else . You should even back up a bit more. In the Indian philosophy, of which Buddhism is (obviously the best;) part, s...

Re: "to know mind as it really is" vs. " for knowledge of the mind as it has come to be"
And even in English, past participles can seem curious if you examine them too closely, in expressions like "I am excited", for example. This is getting utterly absurd and casuistical - let alone the fact that "aham (I) asmi (I am - [√as = to fall to the share of]) nitikta (excited)&...

Re: "to know mind as it really is" vs. " for knowledge of the mind as it has come to be"
... Because 'for knowledge of the body as it has come to be' is confusing not only for a beginner, but for any english reader, buddhist or not, to understand what that means. Whereas 'body as it really is' is fluent and makes sense, even if people miss some of the philosophical implications. There'...

Re: Sutta quotes derisive to women
Just a Buddha's definition of (the vicāra* of) women in the Tipitaka (not entirely similar in the Agama) — and not derisive (just factual) : “Women have a man as their ambition. They’re preoccupied with adornments. They’re dedicated to their children. They insist on being without a co-wife. Their ul...

Re: "to know mind as it really is" vs. " for knowledge of the mind as it has come to be"
The dependent origination connection, is not something one can easily pick up on, especially just by looking at the English translation. Like many terse phrases in the suttas, it requires detailed explanation, and a grammatically perfect translation is not going to make less sense than a less gramm...

Re: how to add sutta quicklink look up feature to a a simple website?
I understand there is a difference, but 2 reasons I deliberately translated that way. 1. I believe Bodhi, or some other translators translate that way. 2. I chose that translation because the main important point, is already too subtle for most ordinary people to understand, and I didn't want addit...

Re: how to add sutta quicklink look up feature to a a simple website?
EDITED from above: Sorry, I didn't see that "quick link" box. It's very tiny. Nice regex script, however limited to only serve you the sutta. Now, if you put the search box, and the all Tipitaka table under it like here — instead of having such pages as https://lucid24.org/sn/index.html +...
