The link to quoted material was an upgrade a few years ago. It's very useful, because if someone quotes you (properly) you get a notification. If someone just writes:

I don't get notified...
Whereas if they do this:

The above is a good example of an extensive quoting post. There was no need to have multiple quotes and such a long one in that post.

You push the "Reply with Quote" button (as you've obviously done above), then edit the content.
Some other forum software allows you to highlight the part you want to quote, but this software is quite Classical...
