please change name: 'sakka'
no beef with the user themself, but 'sakka' should change name. they are more than likely not sakka the deva

Re: please change name: 'sakka'
its like changing the name "salayatananirodha" because we believe the member has not attained the state of undefiled sense spheres
at least the name DooDoot cannot be changed cuz all the enemies think DooDoot is Doo Doo.

There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

If the moderators receive a PM from the real Sakka complaining that someone is impersonating him, then they should rename the impersonator.

Re: please change name: 'sakka'
ok but what if someone named themself 'Buddha' would that be ok?
sakka was or is a stream enterer, worthy of respect. and i'm not sure all of 'sakka''s posts live up to the name

I would be afraid to call myself Sakka in case his seat became hot, and he looked down and saw me with his name and decided to teach me a lesson in humility.
Re: please change name: 'sakka'
This reminds me of a story where a person pretends as a particular Deva and got married to a princess.JamesTheGiant wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 7:28 am I would be afraid to call myself Sakka in case his seat became hot, and he looked down and saw me with his name and decided to teach me a lesson in humility.
Then the real Deva has to help this guy to win a war.

How true are your ways?

Re: please change name: 'sakka'
There is another very big Buddhist internet forum, maybe the one of the biggest buddhist Internet forums where it is a rule that people can’t have user name that is the name of any deity or historical person
Re: please change name: 'sakka'
A sotapanna wouldn't do such a thing, sakka put down the sword when he became an Ariya.JamesTheGiant wrote: ↑Sat Sep 11, 2021 7:28 am I would be afraid to call myself Sakka in case his seat became hot, and he looked down and saw me with his name and decided to teach me a lesson in humility.
Sakka is either enjoying his nymphs, studying the dhamma, or doing his quarterly review of human society where beings below him report to him.
If he did actually exist, he probably wouldn't even be aware of this forum or the internet in general. There's zero incentive for him to learn from humans when there's actual sotapannas, and once returners who were from the time of the Buddha reborn into his plane like Anathapindika, Isidatta, etc..
There is only one battle that could be won, and that is the battle against the 3 poisons. Any other battle is a guaranteed loss because you're going to die either way.

What's that one? I think the reddit buddhist subs are the most active buddhist forums in the world, tens of thousands of people contributing, and half a million readers. . Mostly adhamma and wrongness unfortunately! It's like a wild hurricane of nonsense there.

Re: please change name: 'sakka'
The user "Sakka," as you point out, is not Indra, and it is obvious that they are not Indra. Because it is so obvious, IMO there is no reason to request a name change.
I once met a woman named Priyā Śivagaṇeśanātha. She didn't have to change her name. Neither should Sakka have to. It's rather common to have "theophoric" names, i.e. names with gods in them. Even a normal-seeming English name like "Daniel" has "El" hiding in it.

What is the Uncreated?
Sublime & free, what is that obscured Eternity?
It is the Undying, the Bright, the Isle.
It is an Ocean, a Secret: Reality.
Both life and oblivion, it is Nirvāṇa.
