What do you do for fun -- with other people?

What do you do for fun, when you take people out? I need ideas on stuff to do -- that's cheap or preferably free -- in an environment that's preferably free of drugs & alcohol.

Don't you live near DC? Around here, I just look for interesting things to do in my city. I've gone geocaching, free public museum days (every Monday I think), art museum is free after four here, and so on. Usually some local e-magazine will have some article about "best 100 things to do in our city". Start at the top.

Depending on where you are and what your interests are, consider any of ...
Walks in parks/gardens or along the beach
Get a bit more serious about the exercise and time commitment and think about all-day or weekend hikes
Art gallery exhibition openings - free, and they will often serve drinks and nibbles
Amateur theatre shows - quality varies but tickets are much cheaper than pro productions
Ditto coffee lounge /comedy club / folk music club nights

Hope this helps

In a few cities I've seen free game nights at coffee shops or in private homes with ads online--chess, go, cards, crib, etc..
Parkour.
Bicycling, skateboard, roller-blade...only costly at initial purchase.
Dumpster diving.
Fishing.
Camping.
Dog Brothersy stick fighting. Head gear is expensive but long lasting, especially with lighter sticks.
Jiu-jitsu rolling--lots on youtube to try.
Juggling groups and drum circles are usually open to anyone showing up.
Hacky Sack circles attract passers by.
Jam nights.
Tree sits or homeless camps that could use support?
Volunteer somewhere.
Yoga.
Join a community garden or start one up/guerilla gardening.
Open gym in a local school for basketball or whatever?
Meditation groups; if there is nothing online, someone at a local temple might know where they are.

Of course, duh, swimming/gym! How could I miss that?
Low income folk can sometimes get discount entry/membership--in Canada at least.

Eat dinner.
Watch a movie/video.
With a small group of people you can read plays.
If there is a university near you there will be a ton of activities going on for cheap or free.

I love going for walks / hikes. Although to be fair I think I enjoy that more solitary than with other people.

Thx for the good ideas. I googled "stuff to do in DC" and "stuff to do in Baltimore"

I'm gonna do everything on the list, one item at a time...

I was just there again a few months ago, and the National Mall is about the coolest place I've ever been to (again). You could spend a couple weeks straight there and never see the same thing twice. And it's all free!

Arlington Cemetery was pretty interesting too.

Some games you can play with friends:
  • D&D
  • Magic the Gathering (card game)
  • Once upon a time
  • 1000 blank white cards
  • The Werewolves of Miller's Hollow (there is a form of this that's playable on forums as well btw.)
