because it helps to understand suttas in some instance or many instance ...

Why believe anything at all?

I think the basis is seeking and assumptions and coming across expressions that resonate. Resonate with what? Resonate with one's intuitive assumptions.
It's like coming across an epistemological argument that matches your intuitive assumptions. You think "Great argument. That's it!" because it matches your intuitive assumption and at the same time you are missing its faultiness.
