Teaching of Ven. Samanthabadra of Sri Lakna.

Post by SarathW »

Ven. Samanthabadra has created much contavasis in Sri Lanka.
He has a large following in Sri Lanka and overseas.
It is worth paying to evaluate his teaching in light of Buddha's teaching.
First of all, I like to direct you to previous discussions I had in regard to some of his teaching.
Unfortunately, all his talk in Sinhalese language but I posted his videos to support as a proof of my source.

In the following video Ven. Samanthabadra from Sri Lanka suggests that we should enjoy sense pleasure before we attain Nibbana. He said that Viska was dancing in the street when the day she donated the Purvarama to the Sangha. Basically, he advises his followers to first enjoy the sense pleasure . (the way I understood sex, drug and rock, and roll)

Perhaps there is some truth in his statement considering Buddha enjoyed much sense pleasure as a layperson. However; I feel there is something lacking in this advise.
So what is your opinion on this?

This notorious monk from Sri Lanka said, in Sydney, that Visaka had 500 female friends and they all consumed alcohol. His comment (implied) was that Visaka also consumed alcohol even she was a Sotapanna.

Self-proclaimed Arhant, Sri Lankan Buddhist monk tell his large followers that all religions are the same. In this video (in the Sinhala language) he said this to a large gathering that the teaching of Buddha and the Jesus are the same.

It appears that Ven. Samanthabadra used reverse psychology to divert the attention of the people.
Now his Dhamma talk has taken a completely different direction.
The video is in Sinhalese language.
I could not find any distorted teaching in this video.

Counter 1.37 Ven. S says that Nibbana is the seventh sense. This is in line with the Nibbana as another type of consciousness. His teachings are definitely not in agreement with Theravada.
