What does man as fact mean to you?

What does man as fiction mean to you?

First things first...
Good and evil have no fixed form. It's as easy to turn from doing bad to doing good as it is to flip over the hand from the back to the palm. It's simply up to us to do it. Master Hsuan Hua.

Whatever the answer might be, would it make a big difference? Assume that the answer is "man is a fiction", then what?

I think to see that these questions lead nowhere is closer to what the Buddha taught than the answer itself.
And the Blessed One addressed the bhikkhus, saying: "Behold now, bhikkhus, I exhort you: All compounded things are subject to vanish. Strive with earnestness!"

This was the last word of the Tathagata.

On Self, No Self, and Not-self

"Then is there no self?"

A second time, the Blessed One was silent.

Are you asking whether the Buddha actually existed and taught, as opposed to being a fiction?

Or are you asking whether he said in his teachings that man(kind) was fictional?
Are you a fact or a fiction?
If you're trying to bless us with a discourse, you shouldn't start by trying to put it up against what the Buddha taught. Just tell us what you want to say.
I thought this would be much easier to get an answer.
Are you a fact or a fiction?
Are you living? Can anything else occupy the space that you occupy?
I would assume you are living(a combination of mind, body, awareness.)
I will assume that you are solid and no other man or woman can occupy the space that you occupy.

I would assume you are a fact and not a fiction, am I wrong?

Did you submit the response to this question Nicholas?
I would say yes, that would be a fact.
Or do you argue this a fiction?

I guarantee you, this leads somewhere. Are you a fact or a fiction? You need to know this, great danger to those who do not know if they are fact or fiction. Many traps to fall into.

Fact in that I am a result of a combination of causes and I perform the functions of a sentient being.

Fiction in that the bulk of how I experience myself is in stories in my head.

It depends - is the fiction true crime; epic tale; romance novel; comedy; drama; tragedy?

I am a fiction - an epic tale of a man who reached the summit and grew a stately, manly beard afterwards to mark his ubermensch status. I am the reincarnation of Nietzsche!!!

What are the dangers and/or benefits of knowing that i am a fact? What are the dangers and/or benefits of knowing that i am a fiction?

Or to put it differently, what are the traps to be avoided if one knew the answer to this hypothetical question?

What if one calls it "stranger than fiction"? where does that lead one to in your view?

Ah then I misunderstood your question in the first way Sam Vara mentions.

Ok but then your question
thepea wrote: Mon Jan 25, 2021 4:57 pm Did Buddha teach man as a fact or a fiction?
is easily answered: He taught in 'Bahiya-mode', i.e. he taught man neither "as fact" nor "as fiction".

you are confused
My initial response was to say it is just a joke and anyone should be able to see that. But also, unless you are psychic it is just conjecture that other people are real from their side. There was a one line joke to the effect that if you believe you are psychic just raise my right hand.
