Are there any instances in the suttas where the Buddha expands on his gradual teaching to the laity?
The teaching of...
Generosity
Virtue
Heaven
Danger of sensual pleasure (not senses )
Renunciation
The Four Noble Truths
Is often repeated within the suttas and I know that these subjects are extensively covered elsewhere in the suttas but it seems strange that they are only given as shorthand in so many teachings to the laity without further development.
I believe I've read the majority of all the suttas and I can't recall any instances but I was wondering if there was anything tucked away in the minor collection or the Vinaya.

No, the anupubbīkathā as a whole is only ever given in uddesa or outline form. For a niddesa or detailed exposition one needs to refer to the teachings on each topic in other suttas.BrokenBones wrote: ↑Thu Apr 22, 2021 1:22 pm Are there any instances in the suttas where the Buddha expands on his gradual teaching to the laity?
Yena yena hi maññanti,
tato taṃ hoti aññathā.
In whatever way they conceive it,
It turns out otherwise.
