Do you like Sāriputta? :-)

At Sāvatthī...

  • The Blessed One and Ānanda:
    • “Ānanda, do you like Sāriputta?”
    • “Sir, who on earth would not like Venerable Sāriputta unless they’re a fool, a hater, delusional, or mentally deranged? ...”
    • “That’s so true, Ānanda! That’s so true! ..."

Greetings,

After The Buddha himself, he's my favourite.

Why? Because I think that, second to the Buddha, he was the one who helped the most people break through to nobility.

As such, I don't like when people misrepresent and malign him, or when they stuff their own teachings down his throat and pretend they're his words.

Metta,
Paul. :)

I never knew him. Then again, maybe I did once ;)

In all seriousness though, given what we see in the texts what is not to like? Whoever he was he certainly had great standing in the community.

Do you know of people who dislike him? what reasons do they present?

What will be the kamma result if any random user voted for the last option for whatever reason?

I once read a paper, probably written by some feminist, being critical of Ven Maha Kassapa and praising Ven Ananda for their attitudes towards bhikkhuni sangha, but Ven Sariputta!!! Why?

 Me too. He's the General of the Dhamma, arguably the first Buddhist scholar (not counting the Buddha).

I think there's a Mahayana sutra which disparages him. It portrays him as someone getting upset and angry when a lay person sits higher than him. I think it might be the Vimilikirti Sutra. Obvious Mahayana propaganda and polemics (in this case).

There was a story in the connected suttas about someone who said it three times. That person died a painful death and went to hell. Buddha said not to say such things, but the person insisted on saying it to him again. Somehow an anonymous vote on the forum doesn't seem equivalent. Mahayana types would be in big trouble because many of them really believe just entering the Mahayana makes them better than all the Arhats.

Most buddhists are lazy to read sermons
from Āyasmā Sāriputtå Mahātherå,
Āyasmā Sāriputtå Mahātherå's
sermons are very beautiful.

If I find a sermon that Āyasmā Sāriputtå Mahātherå
preached, I will focus, and read slowly.

Of course other sermons are also important,
But Āyasmā Sāriputtå Mahātherå
sermons are very special.

Lebih layak disebut 'orang yang telah mengarungi air baih (saṃsārå)'."

Sariputta, the General Dhamma is like a Mother to wise monks and layperson...

His sermons are very analytical, detailed, and comprehensive. One of them would be Saccavibhanga Sutta: The Analysis of Truths.

Another good example of one should not take Buddha Dhamma as superficial, simple, reading on surface, or pure logic.

Actually, I was not a fan of any of Buddha's disciples even though I used to wish to be one of them for a future Budhha one day.
However, I recently learned that they are the people who protect the Buddha's teaching for the future generation (Bhanaka Parampara?).
So I think I like all of them now.
Is there any reason why we especially like Ven. Sariputta?

nothing because he is giving his opinion. and he is looking sariputta as imaginary character as no one know how sariputta looked. also he may not see sariputta teaching because his hate will prevent him from.
I may be slow learner but im at least learning...

I respect the great first chief disciple the most of any of the Buddha's disciples actually.

Foremost of the wise, second in command of the Sangha. Chief in training the Buddha's other monks. First disciple the buddha allowed to ordain other monks. His status as first chief disciple shows the value of wisdom in Buddhism. Plus i love his and Maha Moggallana's origin story as Sarada and Sirivaddhana when they first made the wish to become the chief disciples of a future Buddha. A very neat story on the strength and bond of friendship.
