Are pranks unwholesome for lay people?
How about the people laugh at those pranks?

The prank in the video appears to be a dangerous prank because old people could have a heart attack or similar.
There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

I recall a story in Vimmanavatthu, A virtuous man who upheld 5 precepts once in joke hid the clothes of his friend who went to bath in a lake and shortly the virtuous man died, as a result he was born as a earth deva in a heavenly palace but was naked, at last during the Buddha's time robes were offered to the Sangha in his name and his was finally dressed.

Breaking of wholesome conduct with any intention can be harmful.
