Our happiness is decided by how we react to our emotions. Emotions are based on desires. We can satisfy our desires to satisfy our immediate sensuality but with certain after effects. As an example a diabetic with a desire for chocolates may satisfy his desire ( suka vedana) and suffer later because of his desire or tanha for taste. A person might react to sexual desires and have impacts if not careful about lobha,dosa, moha. An ignorant could be in grave danger while trying to satisfy while been happy with desires.

And what is right speech? Abstaining from lying, from divisive speech, from abusive speech, & from idle chatter: This is called right speech.

Mere suffering exists, no sufferer is found;
The deed is, but no doer of the deed is there;
Nibbàna is, but not the man who enters it;
The path is, but no traveler on it is seen

Happiness based on conditioned things, is no different than a house based on quick sand.

If your happiness is not based on conditioned things, then you can't lose it.

Although, it's easier said than done.
There is only one battle that could be won, and that is the battle against the 3 poisons. Any other battle is a guaranteed loss because you're going to die either way.
