Tradition vs definition

when reading Abhidhamma , Commentaries, and disciple's dhamma discourses , should able to distinguish "tradition" from "definition".

example: "...when the Buddha got Supreme Enlightenment, He didn't eat for 49 days , but Contemplate Dhamma under 7 trees, when He contemplated Abhidhamma especially patthana, 6 colored lights spread up from His body and the lights reached the darkest hell between galaxies..."

tradition or definition ? or a made up story in order to raise the position of Abhidhamma in teachings
