Why frame it only in terms of 'weakness'?
It is excessive attachment and possessiveness, usually holding to dreams and plans and ideals involving the person.
See the person more objectively and less idealistically, including their flaws and understand why the mind had desired to cling to this mental representation which would not match the reality.
"Therein monks, that Dimension should be known wherein the eye ceases and the perception of forms fades away...the ear... the nose...the tongue... the body ceases and the perception of touch fades away...

That Dimension should be known wherein mentality ceases and the perception of mind-objects fades away.
That Dimension should be known; that Dimension should be known."

I like what The Buddha said to angulimala when he got hit with rocks and blood was flowing from his head after he became a monk. The Buddha told angulimala to bear up.

We are hiers to our khamma, So Bear up and be mindful of the suffering it has caused you. Don't let lust burn you again and again.
