larva and killing

Post by Zachary »

Hi all,

I found a lot of larva in my garbage can. I have brought all of them outside my house.

Is it killing when they don't have enough warmth and food outside, and they surely going to die, if it was me who brought them outside?

Unless you are an entomologist, I am not sure you would know putting them outside is certain death at all. Far from it. Most larvae is fairly hardy. Not killing doesn't mean you have to personally ensure the survival of all beings you encounter (an impossible task).

Unless you brought them outside with the intention that they will die without food by keeping them outside, it doesn't qualify to be an act of killing.

It's amazing that when people practice dhamma, they start caring for even tiny living beings who otherwise are considered worthless and are killed without any thought.
