We cannot attain anything without an effort.
First as a follower of the budda damma we got to understand caturararya satya, dukka, reason for dukka, cessation of dukka and the way of ending dukka. Damma cakka pavattana sutta explains it or one may address these subjects on google and understand by reading. The next is to observe panca sila with anunderstanding and an effort.. With metta.

Focus upon perfecting your virtue, guarding the senses and keep meditating. The rest will come naturally, in time.

understanding it has the nature of a mirage,
cutting off Māra’s flower-tipped arrows,
one should go beyond the King of Death’s sight.”

It is good friend that you ask guidance from other dhamma friends for the purpose of magga-phala.

What should be done is nothing other than the practice of the dhamma as taught by the Blessed Buddha in the suttas.

If you have any doubt or need any help on specific point, You can ask. We'll be happy to help as per our capabilities.

The perceiving of impermanence, bhikkhus, developed and frequently practiced, removes all sensual passion, removes all passion for material existence, removes all passion for becoming, removes all ignorance, removes and abolishes all conceit of "I am."

Continue to be humble and realistic about yourself and your position on the Buddhist path. They might come later. The future is an unknown thing.
What is the Uncreated?
Sublime & free, what is that obscured Eternity?
It is the Undying, the Bright, the Isle.
It is an Ocean, a Secret: Reality.
Both life and oblivion, it is Nirvāṇa.

Also, it's not a fancy-seeming attainment like a jhāna, but IMO having taken refuge in the three jewels is an attainment.

That's what you think, but is that really the case?

yes
Well then, what do you want to attain? And can you be precise in your definition of that which you want to attain?

Nibbana. Ironically, my desire for reaching nibbana will prevent me from reaching Nibbana.

Alright. Other than the desire to attain it, is there anything else that is stopping you, is there anything that is lacking?

That would then make this an endless path. The path has an end, see: https://www.dhammatalks.org/suttas/SN/SN51_15.html

Desire for nibbana won't prevent you from reaching it. There is no basis in the teachings for such a statement.

Things such as Inability to hold to precepts, endless questions, or holding wrong view can prevent you from progressing however.
