Sutta Nipata Translation by Bhikkhu Sujato.

Post by mikenz66 »

Bhikkhu Sujato's Sutta Nipata translation is now online.

And there is a series of talks about some of the suttas in the Aṭṭhakavagga (Chapter 4):

It's interesting to see the software he (and others) are using for creating the parallel English-Pali (or English-Chinese, or OtherModernLangues-Pali/Chinese/etc) demonstrated in the talks.

Very excited for this. I’m a huge fan of what he does with verse.
“Life is swept along, short is the life span; no shelters exist for one who has reached old age. Seeing clearly this danger in death, a seeker of peace should drop the world’s bait.” SN 1.3

Is now really cool that we can read Bhikkhu Bodhi's translation of both the suttas and Commentary, Ven. Ñāṇadīpa Mahāthera's translation of the 4th and 5th chapters, https://pathpress.org/new-the-silent-sages-of-old-pdf/, Bhikkhu Nanananda's sermons that make frequent reference to those chapters, and Bhikkhu Sujato's English-Pali parallel. [To be fair, Ven Ñāṇadīpa's also had the Pali...]. I don't see it as a matter of a "best" translation - I found it extremely interesting to hear Bhikkhu Sujato discuss the difficulty of rendering some of the trickier passages (see also here: https://discourse.suttacentral.net/t/i- ... yond/21911) and to be able to compare all three.
