That is a very reasonable response, but, as you very soon will see, opinions will vary. Probably best to keep Seng-T'san in mind when it comes to opinions.
Accepted and understood, but I was also bearing in mind the lesson to the Kalamas. my apologies if my train of thought was unacceptable. :anjali:
You have absolutely nothing to apologize for. Your train of thought was just fine. No problem, at least as I see it.

Do not search for the truth;
only cease to cherish opinions.
I always wondered where this came from. http://www.selfdiscoveryportal.com/cmSengTsan.htm. Now I know.

Gratitude, to you tiltbillings for indicating the source, albeit inadvertently...

Hi, HFL.

To embed a link follow these steps.

1. Press the URL option at the top of the text box. You will then see two sets of square brackets:

2. Into the first set of square brackets after "url" place an = sign without a space and then without a space paste the link address after the equal sign.

3. Then type your text here between sets of brackets

It will appear this way: A Buddhist discussion forum on the Dhamma of the Theravada

It does not sodden what is open.
Therefore uncover what is covered
That the rain will not sodden it.

Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS) is a medical disorder that only affects males.

Men with Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS) become ill within minutes or a few hours after having had an ejaculation. They may then develop a variety of the following symptoms:

Extreme fatigue, painful muscles, a flu-like state with itching eyes, congestion of the nose or a watery nose, a feverish feeling, sore throat and headache, but also irritability, difficulty in focusing attention, and difficulty in formulating sentences.

These complaints occur after each ejaculation, both after masturbation, intercourse or spontaneous ejaculation while sleeping. The complaints last for 2-7 days.

Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome (POIS) affects males in puberty and remains present for many years or it may occur for the first time at a later age.

In order to avoid these complaints, a lot of men affected by POIS, decide at a certain point in life to abstain from sexual activity. They either completely avoid sexual activity or plan masturbation or intercourse to days after which they do not have any important obligations.

However, this self-chosen abstinence of sex is usually difficult to maintain as spontaneous ejaculations develop after a variable period of time, after which the typical POIS complaints reoccur.

in women?

Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) refers to physical and emotional symptoms that occur in the one to two weeks before a woman's period. Symptoms often vary between women and resolve around the start of bleeding. Common symptoms include acne, tender breasts, bloating, feeling tired, irritability, and mood changes. Often symptoms are present for around six days. A woman's pattern of symptoms may change over time.[1] Symptoms do not occur during pregnancy or following menopause.[2]

Semen is not DNA. We know what is in semen. It is the pattern of the genome, not the components of semen, that is the mystery. We even know the components of the genome. It is a lack of knowledge of the genome that prevents substantial large-scale cloning.

It'll never happen.

Didn't say it would. The genome is incredibly complex. We will probably all die, or suffer societal collapse, before it can be decoded and/or knowledge of its decoding could be of any use.

Perhaps someone knowledgeable could comment on whether the word translated as "reduce vitality" (anāyussā), really carries the connotations of "life force".

What do you mean by "life force"?

Can anyone comment if this is synonymous with "lifespan" in the sutta where it mentions celibacy increasing vitality?
