Oh no, how boring, not something else you've lifted from Tibetan Buddhism!

Of course not. If you believe in the soul you can understand the soul to be male, female, or both even in the same body. Or neither, depending on the person or being, and still amazing.

Buddhists don't believe in a soul.

The Buddha may have taught at certain points in time to a group of atheists or agnostics, or to those who needed to preach such philosophy to certain atheists or agnostics, the teaching that there is no soul, while all the while there was a systemic process of philosophy in Buddhism by which they could understand who they are. This is beautiful and wonderful. However there is nothing wrong with believing in a soul and Buddha understood what the soul was fully, His entire life being a testament to what the soul could do and accomplish. It's okay to believe in no-soul and hold the powerful "not-self" meditation, but eventually through your Spiritual journey in Buddhism you will find to know that there is a soul, regardless of the obstructions and atheistic or agnostic theories. I do respect your opinion though, and it is valid, so please continue in your meditation. Om.

"Is it true, friend Yamaka, that this evil supposition has arisen to you: 'As I understand the Teaching explained by the Blessed One, a monk with no more effluents, on the break-up of the body, is annihilated, perishes, & does not exist after death.'

"Yes, friends. As I understand the Teaching explained by the Blessed One, a monk with no more effluents, on the break-up of the body, is annihilated, perishes, & does not exist after death."

"Don't say that, friend Yamaka. Don't misrepresent the Blessed One. It's not good to misrepresent the Blessed One, for the Blessed One would not say, 'A monk with no more effluents, on the break-up of the body, is annihilated, perishes, & does not exist after death.'"

:goodpost:

This question about the horn of a hare is not connected to Theravada teachings, but is a well-known phrase borrowed from Tibetan Buddhism, see the "Conclusion" at the Tibetan Buddhist link below

In Buddhist scriptures, the analogy of horns of a rabbit are presented to describe our illusory mode of perceiving the world and being within. If rabbits have no horns, investigating how long a rabbit can have horns is rather foolish. Understanding that ultimately nothing can arise, it is conclusive that nothing abides or ceases. All appearances are mere appearances that do occur but have no solid, self-existing reality of their own. Since nothing abides, nothing can arise, nor can things be stopped from arising when causes and conditions prevail. Ultimately, everything is beyond conceptuality, the meaning of shunyata, the ultimate truth that is the ground for the relative truth of being and becoming.

Can someone give me a summary of the Waharaka Abhayaratanalankara / PureDhamma teachings about hadaya-vatthu and bhava, which are like a soul and outer-soul if I understood it correctly..?

A question - has anyone come across anywhere of the notion that the iddhipada are the (manifestation of the) self?

Someone find me a specific Sutta where the Buddha explicitly stated that there is no soul at all. :broke:

The least you could do is at least pretend to have even the slightest bit of respect for the Buddha's Dharma while you use the usual Hindu tricks to try to twist it.
What is the Uncreated?
Sublime & free, what is that obscured Eternity?
It is the Undying, the Bright, the Isle.
It is an Ocean, a Secret: Reality.
Both life and oblivion, it is Nirvāṇa.
