Frank Yang is DONE!

Post by lojong1 »

Frank Yang says he's fully enlightened since about 3 months ago, and is very YOUTUBE about it, so this thread was inevitable.
Congratulations!
He appears to have been working hard at this for some years using Goenka, Mahasi, Dzogchen and others, and achieved something remarkable.
He believes he's done. I subscribed.
Good work. Keep us updated.

Very interesting! Here's the YouTube video. I skipped forward to 4.23 when something really starts going on, and then gets more and more.
Judge for yourself, but something significant is happening maybe, could be. Uncertain, as Ajahn Chah says of his own attainments.

  • Wonderful experience, undoubtedly.
  • Yet, I don't believe a bit regarding claim of "Final Awakening", regardless of the names of the methods/techniques purportedly mentioned to be associated, on seeing one of the videos.

    From youtube description:
2 weeks ago I had a "Final Awakening", still waiting to see if it holds up. Topics covered:
1:06 Difference between Awakenings and Enlightenment. 3:05 Dying before you die
8:44 Psychedelics vs Meditation. 9:40 Kundalini/Chakras explosion vs Enlightenment
14:11 “Integration” is a myth. 15:18 How to speed up your progress on the path
    ...

    #TrueSelf#Nirvana#FinalPath

  • And, he said:
    It's beautiful. F**kig beautiful
    :jumping:
  • Behaviors and manners don't seem significantly oozing the serenity radiated from the inner peace within, not to mention very restless behaviors in the video.

Such "yellow press" topics are misplaced in this forum section and only damage the reputation of this forum.

I agree with your point, but we should be able to understand this behavior in terms of Buddhis teaching.
It appears he had some experience with LSD etc.
More than once I thought I was an Arahant taking certain Jhana experience the wrong way.
This is why it is important to practice Jhana under an experienced teacher.
I can be related to what he is referring to as dissolving.
At least I know that this is not what Buddha referred to as enlightenment.
Perhaps this can be termed as perversions.

he maybe on the path but he is not having fruit... if he really have no greed, hate and delusion, he would have ordained as monk the very same day and unable to live household life... but he is eating some weird big fest food and using laptop for making videos...

however I can see he says no him anywhere which is quite good analysis
I may be slow learner but im at least learning...

I hope he transcended the dukkha even fully or partly 🙏

I think it's great if people use all kinds of methods to awaken and have a funky style.

What rings alarm bells for me is all the hype and the buzzwords. It's as if he wants to tick all the boxes. From what I know of awakening experiences, people tend to say very little about them, because words miss the mark. To me it smacks of a born-again rapture, rather than nibbana.

But for the guy's sake, I hope he is sincere and finds his way.

I've only watched a few minutes, so far, great video editing and twisted images to give appearance of something transcendental going on and lots of spiritual buzz words being used, "going beyond space-time, infinity, singularity, blah, blah..."

The rapture and elated experiences could be some level of jhanic experience, which is not necessarily enlightenment.

From a Theravada perspective, he can't be enlightened because supposedly the awakening came in June 2020 and an enlightened lay person ordains or dies within 7 days according to Theravada. He's not dead and he hasn't ordained.

Sounds familiar but I can't find it in suttas.

62. The Lay Arahant
“You say that if a layman attains arahantship he must either
enter the Order that very day or die and attain
parinibbàna.
199 Yet if he is unable to find a robe and bowl
and preceptor then that exalted condition of arahantship is a
waste, for destruction of life is involved in it.”
“The fault does not lie with arahantship but with the
state of a layman, because it is too weak to support
arahantship. Just as, O king, although food protects the life
of beings it will take away the life of one whose digestion is
weak – so too, if a layman attains arahantship he must,
because of the weakness of that condition, enter the Order
that very day or die.”
The Debate of King Milinda, pg. 138
The Debate of King Milinda is Canonical in the Burmese Tipitaka. It is considered Commentaries in other traditions, but still generally accepted in all Theravada traditions.
