World Meditation Day & World Mindfulness Day ... Any reasons for the dates chosen?

Post by Sabbe_Dhamma_Anatta »

World Meditation Day - May 21
World Mindfulness Day - September 12

Any sound reasons for the dates chosen?
Who invented these & why?
Commercially spurred or not?

I don't know who chose that date, but I like it. At least it's in May and almost always Wesak is in May.

It could be a way of "westernizing" the Wesak date, instead of using the Full Moon date.
