the speaker is wrong. if a place a banana into the (external) fire, the banana will burn into ash. if a place a banana into my (internal) mouth and eat it, the banana will digest in my body, transform into nutriments and what remains will be expelled as poop.

There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.
