Forces of Nature

Post by Ceisiwr »

Greetings,

How would the Abhidhamma classify the fundamental forces of gravitation, electromagnetism, the weak nuclear force and the strong nuclear force? Under rupa yes, but more specific than that?

understanding it has the nature of a mirage,
cutting off Māra’s flower-tipped arrows,
one should go beyond the King of Death’s sight.”

They all come under Rupa.
It also categories in the Five Niyama such as Utu, Dhamma, Biju Niyama etc.

I think the 4 Elements and their Characteristics sum up all the Forces of Nature well..

Mahābhūta
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mah%C4%81bh%C5%ABta

4 primary elements
https://dhammawiki.com/index.php/4_primary_elements
These four elements are explained in the Buddhist tradition as the primary attributes of matter - solidity, cohesion, warmth and relaxation. The detailed explanation is found in Vsm XI, 27-117.

we also have to observe the Buddha’s goal when teaching the Dhamma .. the Khandas for example ..
Analysis of the aggregates used by the Buddha is not undertaken with the aim of achieving an objective, scientific understanding of what a human being is as it is undertaken by physiology and psychology. For the Buddha, the investigation of the nature of existence is always subordinate to the liberating power of Dhamma and for that reason only those aspects of existence that contribute to the realization of this goal receive attention.

All of these forces are varieties of cohesion, which suggests that Abhidharmas would treat them as manifestations of kinds of water. This is similar to how Abhidharma classifies "mind" as comprised chiefly of air.
What is the Uncreated?
Sublime & free, what is that obscured Eternity?
It is the Undying, the Bright, the Isle.
It is an Ocean, a Secret: Reality.
Both life and oblivion, it is Nirvāṇa.

That's pretty much it. There won't be 1-to-1 mappings between physics' 4 fundamental forces to the Abhidhamma, just like there's no 1-to-1 mappings between Abhidhamma's 202 Paramatthas and 13 Sammutis sub-categories to any modern science's disciplines.

I think there are more people wanting an explanation from Abhidhamma on modern science issues.
