Ven. Buddhaghosa
Ven. Buddhaghosa
Are there any biographies available of Ven. Buddhaghosa's life?
“Knowing that this body is just like foam,
understanding it has the nature of a mirage,
cutting off Māra’s flower-tipped arrows,
one should go beyond the King of Death’s sight.”

I felt very fortunate to have joined this forum because the link to this book I would not have found myself. Much merit for all the members
Re: Ven. Buddhaghosa
"Ven. Buddhaghosa" sounds extremely funny and dejective -- like the great Teacher, Scholar, Master, is a 20-year old monk from a neighboring vihāra.
You would rather go with Ācariya Buddhaghosa, Master Buddhaghosa or Bhadanta Buddhaghosa, Reverend Buddhaghosa (with a connotation of Splendid, Illustrious one).

I don’t think it really matters.sphairos wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 12:34 pm "Ven. Buddhaghosa" sounds extremely funny and dejective -- like the great Teacher, Scholar, Master, is a 20-year old monk from a neighboring vihāra.

Re: Ven. Buddhaghosa
Nevertheless you put "Ven." in the title of this topic. And it's very funnyCeisiwr wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 12:37 pmI don’t think it really matters.sphairos wrote: ↑Wed May 19, 2021 12:34 pm "Ven. Re: Ven. Buddhaghosa
"Reverend" is what non-monk Zen priests use in English, Tendai priests use it too, so I doubt Ceisiwr ought to be using that.
What is the Uncreated?
Sublime & free, what is that obscured Eternity?
It is the Undying, the Bright, the Isle.
It is an Ocean, a Secret: Reality.
Both life and oblivion, it is Nirvāṇa.

Re: Ven. Buddhaghosa
In Malaysia, we used to address monks with "Venerable Sirs" or "Venerable"
In Thailand, I used "Phra Ajahn"
In Myanmar, I used "Sayadaw"...
In Sri Lankan Buddhist temples, I used the "Bhante" word.
I think the words serve the same purpose...
