Ven. Sujato's idea that subversion by Trojan Horses does not exist in the world sounded very naïve. This said, I also sense Buddhaghosa was not a Brahmin Trojan Horse because the ideas in the Visuddhamagga represent the evolution of Buddhist thought as shown in Jataka, Abhidhamma, Agama (with its various Anapanasati discourses etc).

What I found well spoken by Sujato was from 55:30: "He would be very reluctant to give his personal opinions about things. This was not his job. His job was to translate translate & present the Commentaries as he had gathered them. Sometimes he would present different points of view and would just present those different points of view... "

It appears Sujato's idea above is similar to my own; including with the Visuddhimagga. When I read parts of the Visuddhimagga, I gained the impression there were varied doctrines on the same subject matter and that the Visuddhimagga was more like an "encyclopedia" of different ideas rather than one body of uniform doctrine.

There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

All four talks are conveniently linked here:

https://discourse.suttacentral.net/t/se ... hosa/21520

Due to a technical issue, the third talk, on Samadhi, is currently labelled:
"Nikini Full Moon Poya Day - Translating the Dhamma with "proper attention” (Yoniso Manasikara)".

I have not watched the whole of the third talk, but from what I remember from a previous time that Bhikkhu Sujato gave a similar series of talks on the Visuddhimagga: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbD1tT3tb2Q&t=48s, this is particularly interesting material, since even critics of the Visuddhimagga and Commentaries tend to use its terminology (in particular, "meditation object").
