Buddha and God

Post by Nicholas Weeks »

Not sure which sutta(s) this is based on, but the story has value:

Good and evil have no fixed form. It's as easy to turn from doing bad to doing good as it is to flip over the hand from the back to the palm. It's simply up to us to do it. Master Hsuan Hua.

The video says: "they were finally free from ideas of heaven & hell".

In fact, I think if we study study other religions, it appears the ideas of "heaven & hell" were made prominent by Buddhism.
There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

The Thirty-one Planes of Existence
Scattered throughout the suttas are references to as many as thirty-one distinct "planes" or "realms" of existence into which beings can be reborn during their long wandering through samsara.

The planes notion is Dhamma, I just wonder about what Buddha supposedly said about God to the Atheist & Rama worshipper.

It sounds like a fake-buddha-quote. I don't think there is any place where the Buddha tells someone "there is a God" as in creator god, even for a skillful means point. Impermanent devas, yes, all the time, but no creator-god.

See this long previous thread on god in buddhism:

The message at the end of the video is pretty good, but it's based on a fake-buddha-quote, because the Buddha is not known for using untruths, even for skillful means, according to Classical Theravada.
