Difference between Maha Chulalongkorn Rajavidyalaya and Mahamakutarajavidyalaya editions of Tipitaka

Post by arkaprava »

On this website : https://mahidol.ac.th/budsir/appendix.htm . The sources of the Pali mentioned are : Mahaculalankaranarajavidyalaya and Mahamakutarajavidyalaya.

My question is are these editions sufficiently different ? or are they just mere reprints?

The Mahachula and Mahāmakut Tipiṭakas are not two different editions of the Pali Tipiṭaka. Rather, they are two different Thai translations of a single edition of the Pali, namely, the Royal Siamese edition. The Mahamakut translation is twice as long as the Mahachula, for it also includes a translation of the Atthakathā.
Yena yena hi maññanti,
tato taṃ hoti aññathā.

In whatever way they conceive it,
It turns out otherwise.
