I was wondering if someone could recommend an introductory book to Therevada Buddhism.
Something for the more scientific, secular types. Not too academic but not too pop psychology. Nothing too far out there either, don't want to alienate anyone before they get started!
Also not too based in meditation or history but more about Buddhist theology and philosophy.

Though I wouldn't normally recommend this work for a beginner, but seems that A Thinker's Notebook by Ven. Ñaṇamoli may fit the bill.

“No lists of things to be done. The day providential to itself. The hour. There is no later. This is later. All things of grace and beauty such that one holds them to one's heart have a common provenance in pain. Their birth in grief and ashes.”
