Lor Buddha the Mahavir

I was wondering if in the suttas were the Buddha ever been called Mahavira ?

Yes. Virtually every male Indian spiritual eminence will get called mahāvīra ("great hero") by his disciples. In Pali sources it's particularly common in verse collections like the Theragāthā and Therīgāthā.
Athaddasāsiṃ sambuddhaṃ,
­bhik­khu­saṃgha­pu­rak­kha­taṃ;
Pavisantaṃ mahāvīraṃ,
magadhānaṃ puruttamaṃ.

Then I saw the Buddha,
Honoured by the Saṅgha of monks,
The great hero,
Entering the capital city of Magadhā.

In whatever way they conceive it,
