Looking to learn in thai forest tradition

Post by tmt93 »

Hi all. Im new to dhammawheel but not to the dhamma. Im looking to learn from a qualified teacher in the thai forest tradition. Ideally one id be able to interact with and ask questions from time to time. Im in the US. Travels not impossible but with covid I dont know of places accepting visitors. How would one go about doing this? Online would be fine as long as I could make a real connection with a teacher.

Hi there! In North America you have 2 Thai Forest monasteries that I know of:

Abhayagiri monastery: https://www.abhayagiri.org/

Temple Forest monastery: https://forestmonastery.org/

You can also find many free resources here (where I found these monasteries in the first place): https://forestsangha.org/

there is no unified doctrine or teachings known as the "thai forest tradition"
There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

There is also Clear Mountain Monastery in which Ven. Nisabho aims to arrive by early July 2021 from Abhayagiri
https://www.clearmountainmonastery.org/

You can also find the Clear Mountain Channel and Podcast here:

I started following Ven. Nisabho due to this inspirational article on Tricycle
