Paramis in the Noble Eightfold Path

Post by Haniver »

Hi friends,
I can find the development of 7 of the paramis explicit in the Noble Eightfold Path, but I'm missing 3: Generosity, Patience and Equanimity. Can you please help me find them? :D

In my opinion:
Generosity the opposite of stealing. so giving is Samma Kammantha
Patience is covered in Samma Sankappa and Samma Vayama
Equanimity This is Samma Samadhi (even Samma Sati in terms of seven factors of enlightenment)

It also should be noted that when you practice Satipathana (Samma Sati) which covers all Paramis. There was a video by Goenka explaining this.

Just my two cents .

Generosity if to counter stealing that is siding with merits . If to practice detachment that is siding with four noble truth ie liberation .

Patience can go along with right concentration without which difficult to develop true undisturbed endurance .

Equanimity under right concentration category .

Generosity and renunciation are under the first right intention. Equanimity is right mindfulness without clinging, patience is meeting unpleasant experiences/unpleasant feelings with compassion and mindfulness or thinking the refrain "I am experiencing an unpleasant feeling" which leads to experiencing non identification with an unpleasant feeling or also can be called patience.
Take care of mindfulness and mindfulness will take care of you.

1. Generosity = sīlā
(sammākammantå)

2. Patience = paññā
(sammāsangkappå)

3. Equanimity = samādhi
(sammāsati & sammāsamādhi)
