Going for Refuge

Buddham saranam gacchami
I go for refuge to the Buddha;
Dhammam saranam gacchami
I go for refuge to the Dhamma;
Sangham saranam gacchami
I go for refuge to the Sangha.

Dutiyampi Buddham saranam gacchami
A second time I go for refuge to the Buddha.
Dutiyampi Dhammam saranam gacchami
A second time I go for refuge to the Dhamma.
Dutiyampi Sangham saranam gacchami
A second time I go for refuge to the Sangha.

Tatiyampi Buddham saranam gacchami
A third time I go for refuge to the Buddha.

The Five Precepts

Panatipata veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami
I undertake the training rule to abstain from taking life.

Adinnadana veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami,
I undertake the training rule to abstain from taking what is not given.

Kamesu micchacara veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami,
I undertake the training rule to abstain from misconduct in regard to sense pleasures.

Musavada veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami,
I undertake the training rule to abstain from false speech.

Suramerayamajjapamadatthana veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami,
I undertake the training rule to abstain from fermented and distilled intoxicants which are the basis for heedlessness.
