happy mother's day

https://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/an/an02/an02.031.than.html wrote:"I tell you, monks, there are two people who are not easy to repay. Which two? Your mother & father. Even if you were to carry your mother on one shoulder & your father on the other shoulder for 100 years, and were to look after them by anointing, massaging, bathing, & rubbing their limbs, and they were to defecate & urinate right there [on your shoulders], you would not in that way pay or repay your parents. If you were to establish your mother & father in absolute sovereignty over this great earth, abounding in the seven treasures, you would not in that way pay or repay your parents. Why is that? Mother & father do much for their children. They care for them, they nourish them, they introduce them to this world. But anyone who rouses his unbelieving mother & father, settles & establishes them in conviction; rouses his unvirtuous mother & father, settles & establishes them in virtue; rouses his stingy mother & father, settles & establishes them in generosity; rouses his foolish mother & father, settles & establishes them in discernment: To this extent one pays & repays one's mother & father."

My mother was crying & philosophizing yesterday, talking about her friends who have recently passed away. Obviously, she thinks she may die soon (because she has 1.75 from 4.0 carotid arteries fully blocked and the specialist is reluctant to operate/stent due to her age and can't believe she is still functioning close to normal; rather than had a stroke, has a speech impediment, etc). She was saying in her old country (Middle-Eastern rather than Western Christianity), they teach death is returning to nothing (they believe the Biblical teaching: "from dust to dust") and that one should just live "day by day", not thinking about the future. Since my mother's view is close to supramundane (lokuttara), even though annihilationist in essence, obviously i can't settle & establish her in "rebirth". The Buddha did say the annihilationist view is the best of non-True-Dhamma views, because it is expected to generate dispassion.
There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

no. the word for this can be "nihilism" ("natthikavāda"), which is "moral nihilism".

"annihilationism" ("ucchedavāda") means believing a "self" ends at "death"

many Buddhists, including scholar, mix up & confuse "natthikavāda" vs "ucchedavāda"

kind regards
