Movies/Videos on Buddha

Post by Sabbe_Dhamma_Anatta »

Inspired by Nicholas Weeks' post somewhere, I think it would be good to have a thread about the Movies/Videos on Buddha, appropriately & acceptably under the realm of the shrine room sub-forum, being accessible to all those visiting DWT, rather than posting on forums other than DWT (for example DWE).

Thai: (nearly 5 hours/Theravada based) Animation
  • Buddha's life
    Buddha-Thus have I heard
This animation movie is about the life of Buddha based on Pali Canon (Theravada Buddhism) and other commentaries. It was produced by members of the Buddhist community in cooperation with the Department of Religious Affairs and the National Office of Buddhism, Thailand. It is considered one of the most accurate story of the Buddha. It is almost 5 hours long and very detailed. The production took 8 years to complete (from 2003-2011).

There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

I found a TV drama series, though is in Hindi I think...very closed to Theravada tradition, but a few thing they adopted from Vajrayana tradition of the story.

I find it amusing ...in this video, you can find a lot of Buddha life story and other incidents such as: the conversation between Devadatta and Buddha, the debate between Buddha and Brahmins, etc.

Anime of Buddha (or ブッダ), but I think there must be a lot of fictional adaptation in it.
