Are there Pali suttas where the Buddha & monks demonstrate psychic powers to laypeople?

Post by DooDoot »

Dear DW forum

Are there any Pali suttas where the Buddha & monks demonstrate psychic powers to laypeople?

Please kindly list all suttas we know on this matter.

Thank you
There is always an official executioner. If you try to take his place, It is like trying to be a master carpenter and cutting wood. If you try to cut wood like a master carpenter, you will only hurt your hand.

I think the story of Sopaka also got some sort of psychic powers.
But I can't recall the Sutta.
Also to convince his relatives he performed some psychic powers.
In this story, his father bows down to him for the third time.
I am not sure whether this is in Sutta.

There are probably a few examples in the vinaya which form the basis for the rule against demonstrating psychic powers.

Thank you for the above. It is sutta (SN 10.8). This topic is about suttas.
Thank you, very good. A layman discovered a monk had psychic powers but then the monk ran away from the layman.
